How to Find Your Exact Phone Model Before Buying Accessories
"It's a Vivo, the blue one" is how most wrong purchases begin. Accessories fit model numbers, not colours or memories of the box. Here are four reliable ways to find your exact model, and the codes that remove all doubt.
Method 1: Settings (works on every phone)
Open Settings → About phone (on some phones: Settings → System → About). Note two lines: the device name (e.g. "Realme Narzo 60x 5G") and the model number (e.g. RMX3782). The model number is the truth — marketing names can repeat across different bodies, model numbers do not.
Method 2: The retail box or bill
The box sticker lists the exact model and variant (4G/5G, RAM/storage). The invoice from the shop does the same. If the box is gone, the bill photo in your gallery or mail is enough.
Method 3: Dialler codes
On many Android phones, dialling *#12580*369# (Samsung) or opening the service menu shows hardware info including the model. Not universal — Settings remains the safest path.
Method 4: The SIM tray and back print
Some brands print the model code near the SIM tray or on the back cover in tiny text. Useful when the phone won't switch on and you need a case or panel for a repair.
Why the exact name matters
- 4G vs 5G variants often have different bodies: Redmi Note 13 4G and 5G cases do not interchange.
- Yearly refreshes ("new", "2026 edition") reuse names with new dimensions.
- Regional variants: the same phone sold under two names in two countries can still share parts — compatibility lists like FitMyCase map these aliases for you.
Model numbers you will meet
Realme/OPPO/OnePlus use codes like RMX3381 or CPH2477; Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO use codes like 2201117SI; Vivo uses V2124-style codes. When a compatibility group lists these codes alongside model names, it means the same physical part fits all entries — a strong hint you have the right accessory.
One-minute habit before buying
Copy the exact device name from Settings, paste it into a compatibility checker, and only then order or pay. Thirty seconds of checking prevents the most common accessory waste in India: the case that almost fits.
