Why bubbles happen

Bubbles come from three sources: dust on screen, misalignment causing air pockets, and edge-lift from case pressure. Dust is the biggest culprit — a single speck creates a visible bubble that never goes away. In Kerala humidity, dust sticks more due to static. Pro shops control dust first, alignment second.

What you need

Pro method — step by step

  1. Clean hands and table: Wash hands, wipe table. Dust from hands transfers to screen. Work away from fan — moving air brings dust.
  2. Remove old glass and case: Take off case, peel old glass slowly. If old glue residue remains, clean with alcohol wipe.
  3. First clean — alcohol wipe: Wipe screen in one direction, not circles — circles spread oil. Pay attention to earpiece and edges where oil accumulates.
  4. Second clean — microfibre: Buff dry with microfibre until no streaks. Check under bright light at angle — streaks show as rainbow.
  5. Dust removal — sticker: Use dust sticker or clear tape to dab entire screen — picks up invisible dust. Do not touch screen after this.
  6. Align before peeling: Place glass over screen without peeling adhesive — check punch-hole camera, earpiece slot, and borders. Glass should sit 0.5mm inside frame if case-friendly. Adjust until perfect.
  7. Peel and drop — hinge method: Peel adhesive from one side only, use hinge: keep glass aligned, lower slowly from one edge to other — lets air escape forward. Do not press centre first — press from one edge.
  8. Press and chase air: Once glass contacts screen, press centre lightly and push air toward nearest edge with microfibre. Small bubbles near edge usually disappear in 24h as adhesive flows.
  9. Check edges: If case lifts glass, you used full-cover instead of case-friendly. For tight cases, case-friendly size is mandatory — stops 0.5-1mm short of border so case lip lands on frame.

Common mistakes

What if dust remains?

If one dust speck causes bubble, lift nearest corner gently with fingernail, use dust sticker to pick speck from adhesive side and screen side, then lower again. One lift is okay, three lifts bring more dust — judgment call. For shop counters, keep 2-3 spare dust stickers per glass — cheap insurance.

UV glue for curved screens

Curved phones (Moto Edge, Samsung S series) need UV glue: clean same way, apply liquid glue drop in centre, place glass, let glue spread, cure with UV lamp 2-3 mins. Do not move during curing. Hydrogel film is alternative — no bubbles if applied with squeegee, but less protection than glass.
